Alper is currenty a PhD Candidate in Political Science and Sociology in the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at the Scuola Normale Superiore. His research focuses on the political economy of agricultural biotechnology policies. More specifically, he is trying to account for the reasons behind different policies, pursued by developing countries, pertaining to GMOs (genetically modified organisms) through using interest, idea and institution based approaches. Prior to this, Alper, as a fully sponsored student with ‘Jean Monnet Scholarship, completed his MA degree in European Politics at the University of Sussex. For his master’s dissertation, Alper elaborated the concept of environmental policy integration and applied it to the EU's renewable and internal market energy policies in a comparative manner. Before, he had earned his BSc in International Relations with ‘cum laude’ at the Middle East Technical University. Between 2013-2015, Alper also worked as a research assistant at the Department of International Relations at the Yasar University, Turkey and commissioning editor in E-IR.
RESEARCH INTERESTS/TOPIC OF PHD PROJECT: comparative political economy, developing countries, biotechnology policy and environmental politics.
